Australian Artist Colley Whisson has always loved painting the
effect of light on his chosen subject. His compositions reflect his
continuous travels throughout the world, and often are inspired by his
library of ideas from over 20 years of painting. While Colley’s
paintings are without question realistic, they are at the same time
filled with artistic content and interpretation that make them uniquely
his own.
Colley began painting in 1986 (at 20 years of age,) with the encouragement
of his father, respected Queensland artist Eric Whisson. Soon after,
Colley attended the College of Art and Portraiture at the Brisbane Institute
of Art.
With over 20 Solo Exhibitions and many joint exhibitions, prizes, and
judging appointments to his credit, Colley has built a reputation on
the international stage. His teaching skills are in high commend in
his native Australia and in overseas locations as well. He is also the
author and subject of many articles for “Australian Artist”
and “International Artist” Magazines. He released his first
(now sold-out) book, Creating Impressionist Landscapes in Oil in 2001.
Colley married in 1993, and his two sons are a constant source of support
and inspiration. He has a great love for music, and uses it to influence
his working day. His favorite artists are John Singer Sargent, Nicolai
Fechin, Richard Schmid, and Australian Master Sir Arthur Streeton.
